Controlling the mind is like catching air with your hand. When we like to be rational, the mind plays the game of emotions. When we want to tread the path of righteousness, it makes us impulsively commit the wrong. When you want to rise up to the higher standards, it is attached to the inferior modes. In spite of all these, you can control your mind and be calm, composed, and happy. The way to achieve this is to make friends with your mind. Take time to know your mind better. Learn to communicate with your mind. Slowly convince your mind on what is good to you in the long term. Persuade the mind on how remaining steadfast on the path of principles could make your life worthwhile.


Your mind is the key that locks you up in problems when it turns towards negativity. The same key, your mind, can free you from problems when it turns towards positivity. Hence your own mind can be your worst enemy if it lowers you. The same mind can be your best friend if it works to uplift you.


It is possible to be committed to your befriending mind in the following ways.



Develop higher taste for your mind. You can help the mind discard the negative or inferior thoughts by giving it an experience of positive or superior thoughts, again and again.


Supply your mind with sufficient positive thoughts to counter negative ones. It is difficult to fight negative thoughts, because the more we try to do it, the more we become conscious of them, and they get entrenched in our mind. Hence focus on increasing the positive thoughts which automatically fight out negative ones.

Create a good environment and association for your mind. Try to be surrounded by good books and positive people.


Learn to program your mind the right way. Thoughts are after all output of specific program snippets called prior experiences, beliefs, and values. Focusing on positive experiences and clarifying your beliefs and values can produce positive thoughts. This needs a little introspection. Also, condition your mind to switch to positive thoughts automatically when encountered with negative ones.

Develop positive habits that keep your mind happy without having to incline towards anything negative.
