Not impossible for a Laser-like mind

Want a lot of energy? Look into your mind; your mind is a powerhouse. Modern quantum physics finds the thoughts emanating from your mind to be vibrations of energy. Surprisingly, many of the ancient civilizations have asserted this some thousands of years back. Every moment multiple thoughts originate in your mind, but you do not realize their power because those thoughts are scattered and only get dissipated. If you really want to harness those great energy forms, you need to learn to focus them on a single object such as a work or a problem or an aim. You know, light loses energy when the rays are scattered, but becomes strong when focused like in the case of a laser beam. Focused light is a common analogy to understand focused mind. The power of mind comes from the pointedness of attention without distraction. An alternative word to focusing is ‘concentration of mind’.

Indian epic Mahabharata explains the power of a focused mind through an incident where the royal preceptor Drona (or Dronacharya) conducts a test for his students to prove their skill of archery. The students were supposed to hit the arrow at the eye of a bird perching on a branch of a large tree. When the students were called one by one to make their attempts, the teacher would ask, “Can you see the tree there?” “Can you see the branch to the right?” “Can you see the bird perching?” “Can you see the bird’s eye?”...The students would answer positively to all these questions, but when the teacher asked to strike the arrow, their arrows would lose the aim. It was only Arjuna, Drona’s favorite among his pupils, due to his hard work and dedication, who had mastered the art of concentration. When his turn came to take up the task, he was asked the same questions about the tree, branch, and the bird. As a surprise to the other students, he answered negatively, and said, “I can see no tree, no branch, no bird; but I am able to see only the eye.” His arrow hit the eye precisely. He could apply his mind such a way to focus sharply on the aim without distractions. That is why even the goddess of success favored him in all his endeavors.
You can develop the ability to focus attention like Arjuna, but it only takes some amount of practice every day. It is simple. Focus your attention on a single object or a point, initially for a few seconds, and gradually increase the attention span. You will then be able to apply the same focused attention on your work, and you will excel in your career.
